Epicute: Fruity Rainbow Cupcakes

cute food photos - Fruity Rainbow Cupcakes

I’m assuming the rainbows on these cupcakes are some sort of fruit flavored candy type thing? I’ve never seen anything like it, can you buy it in stores? Was it made just for these cakes? Are those clouds marshmallow? Because if they are, watch out! I’m coming for ya!

  1. Kim says:

It’s sour candy. You can buy long strips of it at most bulk candy stores. It’s flexy.

    • Miriam says:

It’s the new variety of Airheads candy. Each of those strips is a different flavor, but it’s connected, so you can choose whether to eat it as 5 strips or 1 big one. You can buy them anywhere, even the movie theatre concession stand.

  2. Drea says:

The rainbows are made out of Airhead Extremes it looks like, and mixed with the icing would either be really yummy or not so much.
BUT IT LOOKS FREAKIN’ ADORABLE!! Which is the point.

  3. Polka says:

Airheads Xtreme-rainbow ribbons. More cuteness with food at airheads.com

  4. moi says:

they’re candies made by airhead, some sour concoction you can find at the front of the store at check out or in the candy section.

  5. Meghan says:

Air Heads Xtremes <3 I can haz?

  6. Kat says:

those candies are actually quite common, at least in Canada. they’re slightly sour/tart (i remember, i haven’t had them in a while) slightly chewy, similar in taste to sour patch kids. except less chewy. haven’t had them in a while, but i remembered that much. can’t remember what they’re called, sorry.

  7. Grumzz says:

They’re, as kat said, like a sour patch, they are really common in the netherlands! I’m going to make this as soon as I have a reason to make cupcakes :D

  8. VelmaDinkley says:

I see them in convenience stores on the counter all the time, too. Then again, I’m also in Canada. They’re nice, but not the sort of thing you’d want to eat every day. They might also not go too well with cupcakes, but I think that the looks are more important than the taste for these adorable little things. You wouldn’t even have to eat one to be cheered up.

  9. Webby says:

They are also available in America as I love these things (I am a big sour candy fan)… They are Airhead Xtremes (or something like that)…

  10. Fi says:

  12. Ashley says:

  14. Rae says:

    am i in heaven?

  19. lemonfizz says:

It’s an Airheads Extemes Sweetly Sour Belt. They’re slightly chewy, way too sour, not sweet enough to balance it out, and just generally not that good. I’ll take Rainbow Twizzlers any day.

  20. azazella says:

The candy is really popular in holland :D
we also have them in different colors and lenghts!
They are called “zure matten” or “zure matjes” on google there are a lot of pictures :)

  21. Cecil says:

I just wish they had been DOUBLE RAINBOWS.
Seriously though, I feel 30% less hetero by volume and still think they rock!

  22. Kim says:

Oh my God. I want to lick my computer screen. The blue frosting, it’s incredible!

  23. cheese2010 says:

  24. Jenny says:

We’ve had those type of sweets in South Africa for many years but we’ve never had them in rainbow stripes… only in solid or two colours. The red and green ones are the best!

  25. lolface1234 says:

  26. Monica Joy says:

This is actually MY picture. I am assuming someone copied my photo and virtually passed it around as their own. But anyway, the rainbows are Airhead Sour Belts and the “marshmallow clouds” are just vanilla frosting.

  27. Monica Joy says:

Oh, and please take this off your site — unless you credit me for my photo/work. Thanks.

    • ingopixel says:

I’d be happy to credit your work, do you have a site or blog you’d like me to link to or would you just like me to credit you as “Monica Joy”?

It can be tricky finding the origin of an image as almost all our content is submitted by users and sometimes people don’t know where they came from.

      Thanks!
      Ingo @ Epicute

  28. Pish posh, everyone that “attempted” to make that design in the past has failed because ya’ll made it pretty, uhmmm, ugly. This one is obviously the best and prettiest and it actually looks edible, unlike ya’lls.
Good job ex co-worker! We miss you (:
    <3 Bounce-a-Rama representative. HAHAHAHHAHAHA!!!

  29. pretty kitty says:

you’ve NEVER seen sour belts??? they’re my absolute favorite thing in the world!!! i usually get them at the movies. last year, my friend found this little candy shop that had them in swirls on a STICK, and gave me one for christmas.

  30. juliet says:

  31. April says:

    RAINBOW BELTS!
    It’s what they are.

And that is all they shall ever be.

    • Rosanna says:
